Sailing can be an enjoyable sport for any age and ability. When holidaying in Lake Como, you will find that there are numerous sailing schools and clubs in the area where you can either sign up for lessons or if you are a seasoned sailor, then you can hire out a yacht, sailing dinghy or catamaran. Many of the boats can accommodate from four to ten people. Costs are approximately €200 plus per day.
Lake Como attracts many watersports enthusiasts; windsurfers, kitesurfers and of course those who love to sail. This is due to the complex wind system created by the surrounding valleys; from the Valtellina valley in the north-east il tivano sweeps across the lake in the morning and in the afternoon la breva sweeps across the lake from the south. There are many other winds that sweep across Lake Como but these are the two most commonly known for keeping the skies clear.
Dinghy sailing is popular with beginners and children. The cost of sailing lessons can vary depending on whether you have having a private lesson or sign up and learn to sail in a group. For a private lesson it can cost approximately €50 for one hour.
For beginners or for improving your sailing technique, why not enrol on a course with one of the following;
- Tabo Surf Centre/Gera Lario in Sorico (they also rent-out equipment for, wind-surfing, kitesurfing, canoes and mountain bikes)
- Katsegeln Centre in Domaso is also part of the Windsurf Centre in Domaso also runs sailing courses.
- Circolo Canottieri Domaso For those of you who do not want to do anything too taxing/strenuous your can hire a kayak or rowboat from Bellagio.
