The mission of Genoa Aquarium is to increase public awareness of environmental problems. The aquarium is the biggest in Europe and hosts 59 tanks which reproduces the marine and terrestrial habitats from around the world, thus providing homes for more than 6000 creatures belonging to 600 different species. Tourists get the chance to see magnificent creatures such as sharks and dolphins as well as hundreds of other beautiful fish up close.
Children aged between 7 and 13 years old can spend a night in the aquarium sleeping in front of the shark tank allowing them to see the nocturnal behaviour of these magnificent animals. Please note that this activity is scheduled once a month and for a maximum of 35 kids at a time only (expert guides in attendance).
As well as the aquarium there are many other things to see and do;
- The Biosfera is a structure of glass and steel with a diameter of 20 metres. It is a botanical garden accommodating tropical plants and animals.
- Centre for children is the first big centre in Italy dedicated not only to play but also science and technology for children aged 2-14 years.
- Maritime Museum – dedicated to man and the sea.
It takes approximately 2-3 hours by car from Como (as long as traffic flow is good) and is a distance of approximately 190km.
There are various passes and price options, however the Acquario Village Pass allows you into everything and only costs 42 euros and is valid for one year.
