Horse riding can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities and many people take up horse riding as a hobby even later in life. It does keep you fit as you constantly have to adjust to the movement of the horses gait as horses move in the same rhythmic motion similar to that of a human walking.
People with disabilities can benefit from horse riding therapy as it can help to enhance their physical, emotional, social, cognitive, behavioural and educational skills. Even for those who have disabilities that are unable to ride the horse, just having contact with the horse and learning to care for the horse can be very calming.
There are a few places in and around Lake Como which offer horseback riding for enthusiasts and beginners; Bellagio, Colico and Porlezza, all of which have qualified trainers and some give guided tours of the area.
