The views from the San Martino Church situated on the slopes of Sasso di Martino above Griante (approx height of 475m) are spectacular and you can see right across the the lake towards Varenna and Bellagio.
The track starts off behind the village of Griante, if you walk up the steps between Hotel Britannia and Hotel Riviera you will find a large map with directions at the top, just across the road. There are plenty of signposts directing you towards San Martino Church from the main lakeside road near Griante. The narrow track continues on a steep incline up through the woods which then starts to level out as the terrain of the path changes from woodland to rocky. You continue along this path and eventually you will reach the church which is surrounded by open space and trees. Catch your breath by sitting at one of the picnic benches. Children can play on the grass area beside the church. A chain-link fence has been put in place to help prevent anyone from falling over the cliff. However if you are taking children on this walk (as with any steep walk/hike) be sure to keep a watchful eye on them.
The walk itself takes approximately one hour (maybe a little longer, depending on your fitness level). Please be extremely careful as there is a sheer drop to the side of the path and there are no barriers.
