This Abbey is situated in the upper part of the town of Lenno. Acquafredda translated into English means ‘fresh water’ and the Abbey is named as such due to the fresh water source nearby (believed to be miraculous).
The Abbey was transformed over the centuries and was even used as a fortress that was later taken over by a band of thieves. Originally built in the 1100’s the present abbey and church were rebuilt between the 17th and 18th century.
The church is of Baroque style, inside which you can view the beautiful frescoes painted by Giovanni Mauro in the 1600’s.
