The region is primarily Roman Catholic (same as the rest of Italy). The church still plays a major role in Italian life, even though numbers of regular worshippers have dwindled over the past few years. Local patron saints’ days are celebrated just as much as folklore, food and historical festivals in Italy. Celebrating such days is an important aspect of Italian life. San Giovanni Battista on Lake Como is one of these important festivals which takes place in June each year with a beautiful display of fireworks over the lake.
