Teatro Sociale on via Bellini, Como is the main theatre in Como. This theatre was constructed in 1813 (the year in which Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner were born). This authentic theatre has many productions as well as musical recitals.
Campagnia Teatrale in Como is a theatrical company which organizes theatre workshops each year for every level of student. They also offer training in singing and dancing.
There are a number of theatres around the lake; Teatro Della Societa in Lecco, Teatro dei Burattini di Como, Teatro Sala Polifunzionale in Lecco as well as smaller theatres such as the one in Griante near the Municipio in the town centre.
Fata Morgana theatre company founded by Devout Mazza and Cristina Quadrio in 1988 produced their first show “Mostri” featured from the famous book of Maurice Sendak. Their shows are aimed mainly at younger children (nursery and primary school age) and often require audience participation. Over the years more artists have become involved with this theatre company and to date Anna Buttarelli is one of the more recent artists to join this group. Many of the shows including; animations, workshops and readings take place in schools, piazzas, museums and libraries around Lake Como and in Switzerland.
