Italian food is very traditional and consists mainly of; pasta, meat, bread, fish and tomato sauces.
The Italians like to sit down and eat their meals without rushing them. Mealtimes are very important to Italians, as it is not only the food that they enjoy, it is also the social aspect of eating with family and friends.
It is a time when families and friends sit down together and enjoy their meal and each others company. You will rarely see an Italian eating a sandwich whilst walking along the street.
Wine accompanies the meals (which they often mix with water) and there is always a bottle of still water (acqua naturale) or mineral water (acqua frizzante) available. Italian’s are not hugely into fizzy drinks.
