Family and friends mean everything to the Italians and you will find that the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins often settle in the same town, sometimes even sharing the same villa or apartment block. There are many family businesses around Lake Como which are passed down through the generations which cements the strong community feeling around the lake. The church is still a very important part of Italian life with many church related festivals and parades happening throughout the year.
The Italians are very warm-hearted people and will always praise you for making the effort to speak their language, even if its only saying “Buongiorno.” Many Italians can speak a little English if you are struggling with the Italian language.
Italians like attention to detail and in particular how you look and being smart makes a good first impression, not as shallow as it sounds – why go about looking scruffy when you could be looking good?!
