The picturesque town of Dongo is located a little south of Gravedona and lies on the westside of Lake Como. The town is infamous in history as being the site of Benito Mussolini’s death. Take a walk into the large piazza in Dongo and see the Palazzo Manzi; townhall and tourist office, but at one time it was the residence of aristocracy.
There are numerous historic landmarks to visit one of which is the Palazzo del Vescovo (Palace of the Bishop) built in the 1600’s by the Marquis Cossoni’s family. This building is now the Civic Institute of Music “Alto Lario,” and the International Piano Academy Lake Como.
This section of the lake is very popular with watersports; windsuring, kitesurfing and sailing along with the towns of Domaso and Gravedona.
Dongo has some shops, a few bars and restaurants where you can stop for a coffee (or tea) and ‘people watch’ by the lakeside.
