Taking your pet (animale domestico) abroad has become very popular in recent years with many hotels, self catering apartment and villa owners allowing pets in their accommodation. However, before doing so, you must ensure that you have a pet-passport, relevant certificates (health and insurance) and up-to-date vaccinations/boosters including a vaccination against rabies. Please ensure that you have all documentation needed for your pet if travelling through other countries on your way to Italy.
A good majority of people in Italy own dogs and many restaurants and bars allow dogs on their premises whilst their owners dine.
You can be fined however if you do not clean-up after your pet in public areas.
